A few weeks ago a job seeker asked me for my opinion about blogging while looking for a job. My opinion about blogging is similar to my opinion regarding social media. These tools in the right way, can be extremely effective for a job search. Using them incorrectly can be a disaster.
This Halloween we had more trick or treaters than we have ever had. The costumes were of the usual variety with my favorite being a little girl dressed up as one of the Three Musketeers. The older and wiser I get, the more these customs become less childish and more of something to ponder. For example, why is it that we feel comfortable handing out candy to strangers but yet we don't feel comfortable handing out job leads to fellow job seekers?
For many people, public speaking is their greatest fear. It even beats the fear of dying for some people. Based on those rankings, I wonder whether the fear of cold calling a single prospective employer ranks higher than speaking in front of a large audience.
