Last night marked the one year anniversary of my leadership role in the NYC HR networking group, Whine & Dine. It also happens to be the same night that Fox 5 TV came to visit our group to tape a segment on networking and career development - a nice anniversary present for me :<) As I look back on the past year, I think of all the wonderful lessons I have learned about networking… lessons that you can't learn in a book or a classroom… you have to experience them for yourself.

I'm sure by now you've heard at least one person remind you not to burn bridges, either personally or professionally. As I reflected on this bridge burning concept, I realized that during a job search, it becomes even more important that playing by the rules is a necessity.

While many of us relish in the joy that we had a day off yesterday on Columbus Day, we probably haven't thought about why we celebrate his life since the 5th grade. And we have probably never thought about the lessons that we can learn from his life as they relate to our careers… until today.

You'll never know exactly why interviewers ask you the questions that they choose, but it's typically not for the reasons you think. Even interviewers who ask the exact same questions may do it for different reasons. Usually, the questions chosen help determine how you are going to react in certain situations.
